The biggest GTA VI myths, checked
Updated
Five claims you've probably seen stated as fact — a PC launch, a revealed map size, a detailed online mode, trailer-frame 'confirmations,' and known editions and pricing — checked against what's actually on the public record.
Repetition isn't evidence. A claim getting said a thousand times doesn't move it onto the official record — it just gets louder. These are the five GTA VI "facts" we see stated most confidently, each checked against what Rockstar has actually put on record.
One note on the badges above: the Confidence and Evidence labels rate how solid the record is — how sure we are of what's officially known — not how likely these myths are to be true. A strong label here means we're confident about the facts, and several of those facts are that the claims below are not confirmed.
1. PC is confirmed for launch
Myth: GTA VI is a lock for PC on day one.
Check: The official platform list is short and specific — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S — and PC isn't on it. That's not a cancellation; "not announced" and "never coming" aren't the same thing. But an open question is not a launch confirmation.
Verdict: Not confirmed. No PC version is on the official record.
2. The map size has been officially revealed
Myth: We know exactly how big the map is — the square-kilometre figure is settled.
Check: There's no official measurement of the world at all. Every km² number in circulation is an unofficial estimate — usually reverse-engineered from material we don't republish — repeated until it started to sound like a spec sheet.
Verdict: Not confirmed. The "known" map size is a community estimate in a fact's clothing.
3. GTA VI Online has been detailed
Myth: Rockstar has spelled out how the online mode will work.
Check: An online successor is a very fair bet — it's where the series lives now. But a fair bet is speculation, not a spec, and no online or multiplayer mode for GTA VI has been officially detailed.
Verdict: Not confirmed. Expected, yes. Detailed, no.
4. Everything in the trailers is confirmed gameplay
Myth: If it's in an official trailer, it's confirmed — features, mechanics, all of it.
Check: Trailers confirm what they plainly show, and nothing past it. Official trailer media is real, first-party material, and that much is on the record. But frame-by-frame reads of mechanics, systems and map geometry are inference — clever sometimes, confirmation never. If a "feature" only appears once you slow the clip down and draw an arrow on it, it needs a label, and that label isn't "confirmed."
Verdict: Half true. The media is confirmed; the feature list people extract from it is not.
5. Pre-order means all editions and pricing are known
Myth: Pre-orders are open, so the editions and prices are set and known.
Check: The official pre-order announcement did two things — set the date pre-orders open, and reveal the cover art. It did not lay out edition tiers or prices. An open pre-order is not a published lineup.
Verdict: Not confirmed. Editions and pricing stay an open question until Rockstar details them.
The pattern
Look at the shape of all five. Each starts from something real — a platform list, a trailer, an open pre-order — and gains certainty as it travels, until an estimate reads like a measurement and an expectation reads like a shipped feature. The confidence grows in the retelling; the record stays exactly where it was.
Our fix is deliberately boring: check what's officially on record, and label everything else as what it actually is — inference, speculation, or a good story well told.
