How to tell real GTA VI news from noise

GTA VI news moves faster than almost any game's, and a lot of it falls apart on contact. You don't need a database to filter it — you need two questions, asked in order.

The badges on this page rate the record behind the examples used here, not the reliability of any outside headline. The method itself is the content.

Question one: where does it come from?

Sourcing is a ladder, and most noise dies on the first rung it can't climb:

• Rockstar and Take-Two themselves — the gold standard; what they state or plainly show is as settled as pre-release information gets
• established outlets doing original reporting — real information, but reporting, not confirmation
• a single anonymous post or "insider" — worth very little on its own, however confident it sounds
• unverified leaks and datamines — the bottom; we treat them as shaky at best, never republish or link to that material, and never dress it up as fact

The rule of thumb: the further a claim sits from an official statement, the more room it has to simply be wrong.

Question two: what kind of claim is it?

Vice Atlas sorts every claim into four labels, and the current record supplies live examples of three. The setting — Leonida, with Vice City — is confirmed: stated by Rockstar directly. A PC version is an inference: not announced, which we read from the official platform list's silence without turning that silence into a yes or a no. An online mode is speculation: a reasonable expectation built on series history, with nothing official behind it yet. Rumor, the fourth label, is a circulating claim with weak or uncertain provenance — tracked because readers ask, never endorsed; no current public claim carries that label.

Same game, four different strengths of knowledge. A headline that treats all four the same is telling you something about the headline.

The tells

Habits that catch most bad GTA VI information before it costs you anything:

• If a story can't say where its information comes from, treat it as coming from nowhere.
• Watch for certainty that grew in the retelling — an estimate quoted enough times starts reading like a measurement, and it isn't one.
• Detail is not evidence. A rich, specific-sounding breakdown can be invented just as easily as a vague one — richness makes it spread, not true.
• Retailer placeholders, storefront metadata, and countdowns are not announcements.
• "Not announced" is a real answer. Anyone converting official silence into a confirmed yes — or a confirmed no — is running ahead of the record.
