What do GTA VI's age ratings say? Decapitation, drugs and sex scenes
For a short time on 2 October, PEGI's website described GTA VI in detail, then took the page down: bloody violence with decapitation and dismemberment from some weapons, cocaine the player can carry and snort at any time, sex scenes, and private dances in which the player can touch the dancers. Since then Germany, Brazil, South Korea and Japan have rated the game for adults too, each with its own reasons. What every board says, and how much of it is confirmed.
For a short time on 2 October, PEGI's website described what's in GTA VI in more detail than Rockstar ever has. Then the entry disappeared, and PEGI hasn't said why.
Verdict: Confirmed, Very High confidence: every major board has now rated GTA VI for adults. Most cite violence, drugs and sex; Germany adds criminal role models, Japan lists only crime and violence, and no board lists gambling. Inference, High confidence, for PEGI's removed description: an archived copy of PEGI's own page shows it said GTA VI has bloody, realistic violence in which some weapons cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment; frequent drug use, including cocaine the player can carry and snort at any time; nudity and sex scenes; and paid private dances in which the player can touch the dancers. PEGI removed it the same day without explanation, so it isn't confirmed as final.
What did PEGI's removed page say about GTA VI?
That it's PEGI 18 "because it features strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes and use of illegal drugs", and then, in more detail than any other board:
- Violence: frequent, against civilians, criminals and the authorities alike. It's bloody and realistic, and certain weapons can cause "detailed decapitation and dismemberment".
- Drugs: use is "frequent and prominent". The player can take drugs with other characters or straight from the inventory, and can carry cocaine and snort it at any time.
- Sex: nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes. In nightclubs the player can pay for private dances and touch the dancers.
- Everything else: domestic animals can be harmed, with less injury detail than people; frequent strong language; discriminatory language on the in-game TV and radio; and items for sale that you don't need to play.
Is the deleted PEGI description real?
Yes, it was PEGI's own text. We didn't rely on the screenshots shared online: a public web archive captured PEGI's database page at 17:18 UTC on 2 October with the GTA VI entry on it, and its next capture, at 18:19 UTC, shows no result. PC Gamer and Inven Global quote the same wording.
What isn't known is whether PEGI stands by every line. It took the entry down without explanation, hadn't put it back by 21 October, and Rockstar hasn't commented. That's why we grade the description as an inference, High confidence, rather than confirmed.
What do Germany, Brazil and South Korea's ratings say?
All three rate GTA VI for adults, and each board gives its own reasons:
- Germany, USK 18: no release to minors, for explicit violence, drugs and "criminal role models", the USK's label for games that show crimes such as robberies and illegal street races uncritically or as adventure. There's an in-game purchases notice too. The USK rated the Xbox Series version on 13 September and the PS5 version on 13 October.
- Brazil, 18: not recommended for under-18s, for sexual content, drugs, inappropriate language and violence, plus online purchases. Brazil's official gazette published it on 9 October.
- South Korea, adults-only: the Game Content Rating Board, which has rated adults-only console games since November 2025, decided on 16 October. The stores list it as 19+ for drugs, sexual content, crime, violence and language.
Some coverage tied the decapitation and cocaine details to Korea's rating. They come from PEGI's removed page; the Korean board published no description of the game.
What is GTA VI rated in Japan?
CERO Z, for players 18 and over only, with two content icons: crime and violence. The Japanese PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pages switched from "under review" to Z by 18 October, after a launch trailer on 15 October that still said under review. GTA V carries the same rating and the same two icons.
Will GTA VI be censored in Japan?
Nobody has said so. Speculation, Moderate confidence. GTA V's Japanese release, also CERO Z, had its sexual scenes changed and some violent content cut, which is why the question comes up. Some coverage reads the missing nudity, sex and drug icons as a sign of an edited version, but CERO's own database gives GTA V exactly the same two icons, so the icons can't settle it either way. The Japanese release on 19 November will.
Is there gambling in GTA VI?
Not according to any rating. None of the boards, and not PEGI's removed summary, flags gambling. PEGI's rating for GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series does, because of the casino, where chips are bought with in-game money. That fits a single-player launch without an online casino. The ratings describe the game that ships, though, so they can't rule out gambling arriving later.
Is GTA VI more explicit than GTA V?
The ratings don't settle it. PEGI's removed text describes decapitation and dismemberment from certain weapons and drugs the player can use at will; its rating for GTA V on current consoles speaks of torture scenes, drug production and "sexual scenes, without visible genitals". Both games are PEGI 18, and the ESRB gave them the same seven descriptors. Boards' wording also changes over time, and the ESRB hasn't published its longer written summary for GTA VI, which would say which scenes earned each label.
How much of this is confirmed?
The ratings, all of them: Mature 17+ from the ESRB, 18 from PEGI, Germany's USK and Brazil, 19+ in Korea, Z in Japan and R18+ in Australia, every one read from the boards' own records or the console stores. PEGI's detailed description is PEGI's own wording, but withdrawn, so it stays an inference until PEGI republishes it or the game proves it. Whether Japan gets an edited version is still a guess.
What changes this: PEGI republishing or rewriting its GTA VI summary, the ESRB publishing its longer summary, Rockstar or CERO saying anything about a Japanese edit, or the game itself on 19 November 2026.

Open the claim record — 9 claims
- Confirmed Very High confidence
PEGI's website published a detailed GTA VI rating summary on 2 October 2026 and removed it the same day; by 21 October PEGI's database still had no GTA VI entry, and neither PEGI nor Rockstar had explained the removal.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
Germany's USK gave GTA VI no youth release (USK 18), for explicit violence, drugs and criminal role models, with an in-game purchases notice; it rated the Xbox Series version on 13 September 2026 and the PS5 version on 13 October.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
Brazil's Ministry of Justice classified GTA VI as not recommended for under-18s, for sexual content, drugs, inappropriate language and violence, in an ordinance of 8 October 2026 published in the official gazette on 9 October.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
South Korea's Game Content Rating Board (GCRB) rated GTA VI adults-only at its meeting on 16 October 2026; the console stores show it as 19+, with descriptors for drugs, sexual content, crime, violence and language.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
Japan's CERO rated GTA VI Z, for ages 18 and over only, with two content icons, crime and violence; the rating replaced 'under review' on the Japanese PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pages by 18 October 2026.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
None of GTA VI's age ratings flags gambling: the ESRB, PEGI, USK, ClassInd, CERO and Korean ratings and PEGI's removed summary list none, while PEGI's 2022 rating of GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series cites casino gambling.
- Confirmed Very High confidence
GTA VI is rated ESRB Mature 17+ (Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, with an In-Game Purchases notice), PEGI 18 (drugs, sex, violence), R18+ in Australia and R18 in New Zealand (both naming sex scenes), 19+ in South Korea, 21+ in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, 18+ in Taiwan (for sex, violence and drugs) and Hong Kong, and, since October 2026, CERO Z in Japan, USK 18 in Germany and 18 in Brazil.
- Inference High confidence
GTA VI includes what PEGI's removed summary described: bloody, realistic violence in which some weapons can cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment; frequent drug use, including cocaine the player can carry and snort at any time; nudity, sex scenes and occasional fetish scenes; and paid private dances in which the player can touch the dancers.
- Speculation Moderate confidence
GTA VI's Japanese release will have content cut or changed, as GTA V's did.
