What is GTA VI's criminal profile? Professional to Psycho, explained

GTA VI tracks what kind of criminal Jason and Lucia are. Rockstar's Rob Nelson says the profile shifts when you go beyond what a job needs, again and again. A creator who saw three hours of the game names four states, Professional, Aggressive, Violent and Psycho, separate for each character, plus a reported 'shattered' state that can't be undone. What each state does, Rockstar hasn't said.

Red Dead Redemption 2 judged Arthur Morgan as good or bad. GTA VI, by Rockstar's account, judges something else: what kind of criminals Jason and Lucia are.

Verdict: Confirmed by Rockstar: GTA VI keeps a criminal profile that shifts when you consistently go beyond what's necessary. Inference, Moderate confidence: it has four known states, Professional, Aggressive, Violent and Psycho, tracked separately for Jason and Lucia. Rumor, Moderate confidence: past Psycho, a profile can shatter and lock for the rest of the playthrough. What any state changes in the game, Rockstar hasn't said.

What is the criminal profile in GTA VI?

A record of how Jason and Lucia commit crimes. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told IGN that robbing a store or fighting back when attacked is fair game, and that "It's when you go beyond what is necessary on a consistent basis, or you do completely unnecessary stuff consistently, that you may start to sway your criminal profile in a certain direction." That's the only official description so far.

What are the GTA VI criminal profile states?

Four are known, from one preview account: Professional, Aggressive, Violent and Psycho. They come from YouTuber TGG, who was shown three hours of the game at Rockstar North in August, as compiled by VICE. Restraint keeps you Professional: clean robberies, no needless deaths, getting away without escalating. Killing bystanders and causing chaos again and again moves you through Aggressive and Violent to Psycho. The profile switches between states rather than sliding along a bar, shows on screen when it changes and can be checked in a character menu, and the notifications can be turned off. One source, unconfirmed by Rockstar: Inference, Moderate confidence.

Do Jason and Lucia have separate criminal profiles?

Yes, by the same account. Each has their own, so one can be Professional while the other is a Psycho. Rockstar has said the two always remain partners in crime however you play them; whether one's profile affects the other hasn't been described.

Can a GTA VI criminal profile become permanent?

Reportedly. VICE reports a state beyond Psycho: commit enough extreme acts and the profile icon cracks, then shatters, and that character's profile is locked for the rest of the playthrough. It's hedged even in the telling, and it comes from the same single preview. Rumor, Moderate confidence.

Is the criminal profile like Red Dead Redemption 2's honor system?

Similar idea, different question. RDR2's honor measured good against bad. Nelson framed GTA VI's around how far beyond the job you go, and the reported states describe styles of crime, from careful to reckless, rather than morality. The comparison to honor is the outlets', not Rockstar's.

What does the criminal profile change in GTA VI?

Nobody outside Rockstar knows. It hasn't said whether the states affect dialogue, prices, police response, missions or the ending; VICE suggests they may touch parts of the story, which is a guess. It's separate from the wanted level, which tracks what the police know about you right now.

What changes this: Rockstar describing the states and what they do, or the released game on 19 November 2026.
