What did Edge's GTA VI feature reveal? A bigger map, K-9 pursuits, working buses and trains
Edge's issue 430 cover feature, published on 29 October 2026, is Rockstar's latest controlled preview: a PS5 demonstration led by Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, and interviews with its leaders. What it says: Rockstar describes the map as nearly the size of GTA IV, V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, with substantially more interiors; police pursuits add K-9 units; buses and trains work; and the day and night cycle is longer than GTA V's. What is Rockstar's word, what is Edge's, and what nobody has measured.
Three weeks before launch, Rockstar let a games magazine see the game again. What came out is a set of statements from the developers, which is worth something and is not the same as the game.
Verdict: Inference, High confidence: Edge's issue 430 feature, published on 29 October 2026, reports that Rockstar describes Leonida's landmass as nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, with substantially more interiors; that police pursuits include K-9 units and a more detailed wanted system; that buses and trains are fully functional; and that the day and night cycle is substantially longer than GTA V's. All of it is the developer's account in a developer-controlled preview. We have not read Edge's own text.

What is the Edge feature?
A cover story in Edge, issue 430, by Simon Parkin, free to read online on GamesRadar+ from 29 October. Edge visited Rockstar's Edinburgh studio, and Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, showed about 90 minutes of gameplay on a PS5 and told the magazine the game had reached its final stages of development, according to KeenGamer's summary, which paraphrases rather than quotes him. The issue carries 12 new screenshots. It is the same kind of preview as the Game Informer and LOVE features, with Rockstar choosing what to show.
We have read two summaries of the feature (KeenGamer and TheGTA6News), not Edge's text. They agree on the points below. Where only one source says something, we say so.
How big is GTA VI's map?
Rockstar says nearly as big as three games' maps put together. The wording TheGTA6News quotes is that the landmass is "nearly as large as the playable maps of GTAIV, GTAV and RDR2 combined"; Edge itself, per the summaries, puts the map at roughly twice GTA V's. Those are two statements, and neither is measured: nobody outside Rockstar has charted the playable area, and "landmass" and "playable map" are not the same thing. The feature also says there are substantially more interiors than in earlier games, with places that reflect the lives of the people who use them. Game Informer's cover story had already said the map was larger than GTA V's.
What does the feature say about police?
That pursuits add K-9 units, vehicle tracking and a more detailed wanted system. TheGTA6News describes heat that follows your description, clothing, partner, CCTV sightings and weapon, and says this is separate from the Criminal Profile scale described in the criminal-profile briefing. The research brief we worked from also reports a stinger strip bursting a tyre in the demonstration. Neither summary we read mentions a stinger, so treat that detail as unconfirmed until Edge's text is checked.
Can you ride buses and trains in GTA VI?
According to Edge, yes: both networks are fully functional. We don't know the routes, the fares, whether you can fast-travel on them, or how many stops there are. A "functioning" system in a controlled demo is what the developer chose to show.
Is the day and night cycle longer?
Edge says substantially longer than GTA V's, so sunsets linger. No length has been published, and we're not guessing one.
What else is in the feature?
Items reported by one summary only, so we haven't made claims of them: a closeness scale for Jason and Lucia's relationship, some story missions that require raising cash first through holdups or stealing cars for fences, coffee and protein shakes for stamina and health, vehicle fuel and engine health, and a smell system. The feature has no news on online play, PC or pricing, and restates the 19 November launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
How far should we trust a preview?
Where it reports what Rockstar said, as far as Rockstar's honesty goes. Where it describes what the demo showed, only as far as the demo is representative. A scripted session on one console isn't a test of the final build, and nobody has measured the map, timed a day or ridden a train.
What changes this: Edge's full text, which would settle the stinger and any quoted wording; hands-on reviews on 18 November; and measurements of the map and the day length once players have it.
