Nobody knows yet. Neither console store lists a size and Rockstar hasn't given one. The 676.7 GB Xbox screenshot that went viral twice is fake. Outlets estimate somewhere above 120 GB, and the much-quoted 'just under 200 GB' has no named source. The real number appears when pre-loading opens on 12 November.

What is GTA VI's file size?
It hasn't been announced. On 5 October 2026 the PlayStation Store listing showed no size and the Xbox Store listing had no size field at all. Rockstar hasn't given a figure anywhere, and GamesRadar+, which has tracked the question since pre-orders opened, says "nothing has been fully confirmed yet".
Is GTA VI 676.7 GB?
No. A screenshot of an Xbox Store page showing 676.7 GB went viral on Christmas Eve 2025 and again on pre-order day in June 2026. It's fake. It says "Install on your home Xbox One", and GTA VI isn't coming to Xbox One. The first poster later admitted the joke, the June wave came from an account whose profile says its stories are fake, and the real Xbox listing shows no size.
How many GB will GTA VI need?
More than 120 GB, on the estimates available. GamesRadar+ puts it at "at least 120-130GB, and could easily be significantly more", since GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 take around 100-110 GB today. Insider Gaming thinks 200-300 GB is possible. Both are estimates, and their authors say so.
The figure you'll see most often, "just under 200 GB" on PS5, is a rumour. It goes back to an X account in 2024 and another in May 2026, and neither says where the number comes from.
When will the real size be known?
When pre-loading opens at local midnight on 12 November 2026. The stores show the download size at that point. Boxed copies hold a download code, not a disc, so physical buyers need the same space and can pre-load from the same date.
How much space should you clear?
Wait for the pre-load figure if you can. If you can't, plan for more than the 100-110 GB that GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 take today.
