Are there real brands in GTA VI? Take-Two says every one is made up
No, says Take-Two. Its CEO says every brand in Grand Theft Auto's world is invented, so there are no in-game brand deals, and calls ads in a game people paid 70 or 80 dollars for unfair. What players get instead are Leonida's own labels, such as Stock 305 and Ferruccio Tucci, and parody apps like the ride-share app RydeMe. Real companies, from Goodyear to the Miami Heat, promote GTA VI outside the game.
Goodyear's airship, Oakley sunglasses and the Miami Heat all carry GTA VI's name this autumn. Inside the game, Take-Two says, there won't be a single real brand.
Verdict: Confirmed, Very High confidence: Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has said on record that every brand in Grand Theft Auto's world is made up, so the series doesn't do in-game brand partnerships, and that interstitial ads in a game someone paid 70 or 80 dollars for would be unfair. Everything Rockstar has shown fits: Leonida's own fashion labels, such as Stock 305 and Ferruccio Tucci, and a ride-share app called RydeMe. Not settled: the finished game, which nobody outside Rockstar has played. That check comes on 19 November 2026. The real companies promoting GTA VI do it outside the game: that's marketing, not product placement.
Are there real brands in GTA VI?
No, according to Take-Two. Asked at the iicon conference in Las Vegas in late April 2026 why GTA doesn't sell brand deals inside its games, Zelnick said: "It's a fictional world and everything in it is fictional. So we're not even at risk of doing brand partnerships because all the brands are made up. And I think that keeps us pure."
Zelnick drew the line by series. NBA 2K carries real brands because they exist in the real NBA; GTA invents its own. The wording comes from two reports of the interview, NME's and GamingBolt's, which agree word for word.
Will GTA VI have in-game ads?
Not the kind that interrupts play, on Zelnick's account. In March 2026 The Game Business asked whether ads, now a big business in mobile games, had a place in console and PC games: "Well, for free-to-play titles, yes. For titles for which you've paid 70 or 80 bucks, no." On ads in a pause menu: "Very difficult for me to believe that we would want to have interstitial advertising in a game that someone paid 70 or 80 bucks for. It would seem unfair."
That answer covers Take-Two's paid games in general, and GTA VI isn't named in it. GTA VI costs 79.99 USD, squarely in that bracket. The only exception in the interview is arena signage in sports games, which you would see in a real stadium; Zelnick said it isn't a big earner.
What brands are in GTA VI instead?
Leonida's own. When Dazed put Jason and Lucia on its autumn 2026 cover, it styled Rockstar's screenshots like a fashion shoot and credited every outfit: Lucia in Stock 305, Jason in Nola with a Ferruccio Tucci watch, and pieces by This/That, Caliber and Blagueurs on the rest of the cast, from Boobie Ike to Roxy and Bae-Luxe, the two rappers of Real Dimez. None of them is a real label. Stock 305 is also a streetwear store that the Ultimate Edition opens in the game.
Rockstar's Stu Petri, vice president of 2D/UI design, told Dazed: "Our vision is to build a vibrant, believable culture." Every brand, from fashion label to car company, is meant to feel as if it really exists in Leonida, not like a one-off joke. In Petri's words, the brands "reflect the aspirations, aesthetics and lifestyles of the people that inhabit our world's spaces."
Does GTA VI have fake versions of real apps?
Yes, at least one, and probably more. Rockstar's Game Informer cover story describes RydeMe, GTA VI's ride-share app for getting around Leonida quickly.
More names come from public records. In September 2025 Tez2, a long-time GTAForums researcher, found domains registered on one day, 27 May 2025, under Take-Two's name servers: rydeme.app, what-up.app, buckme.app, leonidagov.org, brianandbradley.com and three joke sites. We checked the records: all five named domains were created within the same second, through the registrar that also holds Rockstar's and Take-Two's own domains. Once spotted, they were moved to other name servers. None has ever shown a page.
RydeMe turned out to be real, so the others look like GTA VI's apps and sites too; outlets read them as a messaging app, a payments app and a state government site. That stays an inference until launch. Rockstar hasn't shown any of them, and the registrations themselves say nothing about what they're for.
Is anything real inside GTA VI?
Yes: music and art, which aren't brands. GTA VI's Extended Look plays at least a dozen licensed songs by real artists, among them Phil Collins and Depeche Mode. The electronic duo Justice composed the game's score. And the Ultimate Edition's tattoo parlour carries more than 50 designs by the real artist collective FAILE.
Zelnick's line is about brands and partnerships. Licensed music and credited artists have long been part of GTA.
Why are real brands promoting GTA VI?
Because they're marketing partners outside the game, not product placement inside it. Goodyear's airship has flown in Vice City colours since 12 October. Rockstar's Collector's Box includes Oakley sunglasses and a New Era cap. Spotify ran GTA VI billboards in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. And the Miami Heat play as "Vice City" on 18 November, the night before launch.
The latest case is food. Rockstar's fictional Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell now operate as real concessions at the Heat's arena, and the Miami marketing tracker lists the Skinny Louie promotion that turns the chain's Florida restaurants into Burger Shots from early November. They are real-world promotions of GTA's invented brands, not real brands inside the game.
All of that happens in the real world. By Take-Two's account, none of it puts a real brand inside Leonida. Each of these has its own briefing: the blimp, the Heat's Vice City night and the campaign as a whole.
Will GTA VI really have no real brands?
That's Take-Two's word, said twice in public, and nothing Rockstar has shown contradicts it. The finished game settles it on 19 November: its stores, billboards, radio adverts and phone apps. We'll check them, and grade the registered app names at the same time.
What changes this: A real brand showing up inside the released game or a later update; Rockstar or Take-Two announcing an in-game brand partnership; or Rockstar showing What-Up, BuckMe, the Leonida government site or the other registered names, which would settle whether they're in the game.
