What time does GTA VI unlock? Release times and pre-load, by region

GTA VI unlocks at midnight local time on 19 November 2026, but not everywhere at once. The console stores open it in New Zealand first, at 11:00 UTC on 18 November, and in Mexico last, 19 hours later; the US West Coast starts at 9 p.m. on the 18th. Pre-loading opens at local midnight on 12 November. The times by region, and why a New Zealand account isn't a simple shortcut.

GTA VI has one release date and about fifteen release times. Which one is yours depends on the store region of your console account, not the clock on your wall.

Verdict: Confirmed by the PlayStation and Xbox store listings: GTA VI unlocks at midnight local time on 19 November 2026, starting in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on 18 November and finishing in Mexico 19 hours later. Countries with several time zones use one national time, so the US West Coast starts at 9 p.m. on 18 November. Pre-loading opens at local midnight on 12 November. Rockstar itself hasn't announced unlock times, and the stores can still change them.

What time does GTA VI come out?

Midnight on 19 November 2026, local time, in each console store's region. The stores don't open it everywhere at the same moment: they roll it out across the world's time zones over about 19 hours. These are the times Sony's own store listings give, converted to local time:

  • New Zealand: midnight on 19 November (11:00 UTC on 18 November). The first in the world.
  • Australia: midnight in Sydney and Melbourne. The store uses one national time, so it's 9 p.m. on 18 November in Perth.
  • Japan: midnight on 19 November.
  • Singapore: midnight on 19 November.
  • India: midnight on 19 November.
  • Germany, France, Spain: midnight on 19 November (23:00 UTC on 18 November).
  • United Kingdom: midnight on 19 November.
  • Brazil: midnight on 19 November, Brasília time.
  • United States and Canada: midnight Eastern on 19 November, which is 9 p.m. Pacific on 18 November.
  • Mexico: midnight on 19 November, Mexico City time. The last of the regions we checked.

What time does GTA VI unlock in the US?

At midnight Eastern time on 19 November, everywhere in the country at once. That means 11 p.m. Central, 10 p.m. Mountain and 9 p.m. Pacific on 18 November. The US PlayStation Store's timestamp is 05:00 UTC on 19 November, and the Xbox Store's is the same.

Will Xbox and PlayStation unlock GTA VI at the same time?

Where we checked, yes. The Xbox Store's listings for the US, the UK and New Zealand carry exactly the same timestamps as the PlayStation Store's. Rockstar hasn't published a schedule for either console, so treat any region we didn't check as likely, not certain.

Can you play GTA VI early with a New Zealand account?

In principle, but it's not a trick you can pull with a settings menu. The unlock follows your account's store region, not your location or your console clock. On PlayStation an account's region can't be changed after it's created, so you'd need a separate New Zealand account, a New Zealand purchase and a way to pay in that store. Codes are tied to regions too: Rockstar says a PlayStation code only works on an account from the matching region group, while Xbox codes aren't region-locked.

For most people, the cost of a second copy outweighs a head start of up to 18 hours. It also means players in New Zealand and Australia will be posting from Leonida while Europe and the Americas wait, so launch day is a good day to mute spoilers.

When can you pre-load GTA VI?

From midnight local time on 12 November 2026, a week before launch, for digital pre-orders. Boxed copies reach shops on 12 November too, and since the box holds a download code rather than a disc, that code can start the pre-load as soon as you redeem it. The download stays locked until your region's unlock time. Rockstar hasn't announced the file size.

Could GTA VI's release time change?

The date is fixed at 19 November. The hour comes from store listings, not from a Rockstar announcement, so it could still move before launch, as store data sometimes does. If Rockstar publishes official times, they replace everything on this page.

What changes this: Rockstar announcing official unlock times, or the console stores changing their timestamps. Launch night, 18 to 19 November, settles it.
