Briefing Technical Updated Updated
GTA VI's technical side: what's confirmed so far
Two things now sit on the technical record: the PlayStation Store lists GTA VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced, and Rockstar's head of development reportedly described a 30fps target on consoles. Everything else — resolution, engine, install size, PC requirements, accessibility — is still unstated, and every spec sheet in circulation is unofficial.
Resolution, frame rate, install size, ray tracing — the questions technically-minded players ask first. The official record has finally stopped being empty, but it is still very short.
Verdict: Confirmed, and narrow. The PlayStation Store lists GTA VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced, which is official but says nothing about what the enhancement is. A 30fps target on consoles is Inference, High confidence — reported second-hand from Rockstar's head of development, not published. Not stated at all: resolution, engine, install size, PC requirements, accessibility features, or any performance mode.
The badges rate the strongest single fact behind this page, the store's own Pro Enhanced label. They are not a rating of how complete the technical record is, because it is still nearly empty.
What has Rockstar said about GTA VI's tech?
Three things, and only three.
Alongside the Extended Look on 27 August 2026, Rockstar stated that the presentation was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That establishes the footage is the game running, not a target render. It names no specification.
Sony's own store lists the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced. That is a first-party platform label, and it confirms the game gets something extra on a PS5 Pro.
And in the preview sessions after the Extended Look, Rockstar North's head of development, Rob Nelson, reportedly told a creator that the console builds run at 30fps, and that whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later is a question for the technical team. That is second-hand, and it describes the build at the time rather than a launch commitment.
Is GTA VI's frame rate confirmed?
Not confirmed, but no longer unknown. The reported 30fps target is supported independently by Digital Foundry's analysis of the Extended Look footage, which measured a mostly stable 30fps at around 1440p on a standard PS5 and judged a 60fps console mode extremely unlikely. Two different routes, same answer, neither of them a published Rockstar specification. We rate it inference, high confidence. The rumours around 60fps on PS5 Pro have their own briefing.
What does "PS5 Pro Enhanced" mean for GTA VI?
That something is better on a PS5 Pro, and nothing more specific. The label covers several kinds of improvement — higher resolution, higher frame rate, better ray tracing — and neither Sony nor Rockstar has said which one GTA VI gets. A label is not a specification, and this one is doing less work than it looks.
Are GTA VI's resolution and install size confirmed?
No. Rockstar has not stated a target resolution for either console, an engine name, an install size, a performance-versus-quality mode choice, or an accessibility feature set. A PC version itself remains unannounced, so every PC "requirement" in circulation is speculation stacked on speculation.
Are the circulating GTA VI spec sheets real?
Still no. Minimum-spec tables, exact install-size figures, named upscaling support: all of it traces to prediction, comparison with other releases, and extrapolation, never to Rockstar. Detail is not evidence. A precise-looking number is not more credible than a vague one for being precise, and against a record this thin, most of what circulates is someone's estimate wearing a spec sheet's clothes.
Footage invites measurement, and measurement invites over-reading. Digital Foundry's analysis is careful work, and it still describes a video of the game rather than a shipped performance target. That is exactly why it sits at inference here and not at confirmed.
What do we actually know about GTA VI's tech?
One platform label, one reported frame-rate target with independent analysis behind it, and one statement about how footage was captured. Everything else is open. Console performance details usually arrive closer to launch, and a PC version, if and when it is confirmed, would come with its own separate specs.
What changes this: Rockstar or Take-Two publishing a performance target, a resolution, an install size, a system requirement, or an accessibility feature set. Any of those moves a line on this page from inference to confirmed.
Correction (10 Sep 2026): an earlier version of this page described the official technical record as entirely empty; Rockstar's statement that the Extended Look was captured in-game on PlayStation 5 stands on that record, though it settles none of the specifications above.
Correction (25 Sep 2026): this page previously said nothing technical was confirmed at all. Two things are: the PlayStation Store's PS5 Pro Enhanced label, and — as inference rather than confirmation — a 30fps console target reported from Rockstar's head of development. The page and its title have been updated to match.
