Will GTA VI run at 60fps? The performance rumours, graded

Rockstar's Rob Nelson reportedly described a 30fps target, and Digital Foundry measured a steady 30fps on a standard PS5. The 60fps-on-PS5-Pro rumour has three sources and little support. Plus the 'just under 200 GB' download figure. Graded.

The frame-rate question has money attached: whether a PS5 Pro is worth buying for GTA VI. The evidence on 60fps points the other way from the rumour.

Verdict: Inference, High confidence, that GTA VI runs at 30fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. 60fps on PS5 Pro is a Rumor at Very Low confidence. The PlayStation Store's "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label is official, but it doesn't say what the enhancement is. The "just under 200 GB" download is a Rumor at Low confidence, and pre-loading on 12 November will settle it.

These badges rate the claims on this page. The strongest is the 30fps inference, built from a Rockstar developer's reported words and an independent analysis of official footage.

Will GTA VI be 30fps or 60fps?

30fps, on current evidence. Two separate lines point to the same answer:

  • What Rockstar reportedly said. Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, reportedly told YouTuber Davy Jones that the console builds run at 30fps during development, and that whether there will be a 60fps option at launch or later is a question for the technical team.
  • What the footage shows. Digital Foundry's analysis of the Extended Look, captured on a standard PS5, found a relatively stable 30fps at around 1440p, and judged 60fps extremely unlikely on console hardware.

Neither is a launch promise. Nelson's words are second-hand and describe the current build, and footage analysis isn't a specification. But they agree, and they match how GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles.

Will GTA VI run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?

Probably not, going by the evidence. The rumour has three sources:

  • July 2025: the leaker DetectiveSeeds, citing an unnamed PlayStation engineer, said Sony and Rockstar engineers were working toward 60fps on PS5 Pro.
  • June 2026: listing text on Amazon Brazil and the Brazilian retailer Kabum promised "more stable frame rates" and higher resolution on PS5 Pro, without a number.
  • August 2026: HipHopGamer posted that GTA VI will be 60fps and told followers to buy a PS5 Pro.

Against it: Rockstar's own reported 30fps target, Digital Foundry's view that 60fps is very unlikely on console hardware, and reported Sony guidelines under which "Pro Enhanced" can mean a sharper image rather than a higher frame rate. The Pro's processor is only a modest step up from the standard PS5's, and the processor is what limits frame rate in a world this dense.

What does "PS5 Pro Enhanced" mean for GTA VI?

That something will be better on a PS5 Pro, and nothing more specific yet. Sony's store lists GTA VI with the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label, which is official. The label covers several kinds of improvement, such as resolution, frame rate or ray tracing, and the listing doesn't say which one GTA VI gets.

How big is the GTA VI download?

Nobody official has said. "Just under 200 GB" is the figure that keeps coming back, from two accounts on X: GTA 6 Intel in 2024, and WILL_STORM12 in May 2026. Neither says where the number comes from. It's plausible for a game this size, and it's still unsourced. Digital pre-loading opens on 12 November, and the download will show the real number.

Will GTA VI ever get a 60fps mode?

It might. Nelson reportedly left the door open, and Rockstar has added 60fps to its games later before: GTA V only got a 60fps option with its release on newer consoles. What there's no evidence for is 60fps at launch, on any console.

What changes this: Rockstar announcing a performance mode or its frame-rate target, or the launch build on 19 November 2026. The download size is settled when pre-loading opens on 12 November.
