How do you customise Jason and Lucia in GTA VI? Clothes, hair and tattoos
Thousands of outfits, from missions and shops, and clothing stores and hair salons across Leonida, Rockstar's Rob Nelson told Famitsu. Safehouses offer a quick trim or shave, but there's no RDR2-style hair growth. The Ultimate Edition adds its own salon, streetwear store and a tattoo parlour with 50-plus designs. What Rockstar has said, and the hair-growth rumour it rules out.
GTA VI is built around two people, and Rockstar says you can change how they look more than you could change anyone in a GTA before.
Verdict: Confirmed by Rockstar: thousands of outfits, from missions and shops, with clothing stores and hair salons across the map and limited haircuts at a safehouse. Confirmed: the Ultimate Edition opens its own salon, streetwear store and tattoo parlour. Inference, High confidence: there's no Red Dead Redemption 2-style hair growth. Rumor, Very Low confidence: hair and beards grow over time.
How many outfits are in GTA VI?
"Thousands", in Rob Nelson's word. Asked by Famitsu whether there are more outfits than in GTA V, Rockstar North's co-studio head said: "We have thousands of outfits. There are more options for character customization than ever before. You'll obtain outfits by completing missions or purchasing them from stores." There's no count per character.
Where do you change clothes and hair in GTA VI?
In shops across Leonida, and in a smaller way at home. Nelson again: "There are countless clothing stores and hair salons scattered around the map. You can cut your hair at a hideout as well, but the customization options there are limited. If you want to try lots of hairstyles, you'll have to go to a salon."
Clothes matter beyond looks. Police build a description of what you're wearing, and Nelson says that if you change clothes in a store, "you no longer match the information from the report".
Does hair grow in GTA VI?
Not the way it does in Red Dead Redemption 2. Nelson, as quoted by YouTuber TGG after the August preview: "for your hair you can do a bit of stuff in your safe house, cut it shorter, shave it, but if you go to the barber or hair salon you can access lots of different styles. It's not that your hair has to grow and you cut it like in RDR2, you can go to a shop and do whatever you want." He put it down to "GTA immediacy" against RDR2's "slightly more realistic take". A verbatim quote, but relayed by a creator: Inference, High confidence.
That rules out a rumour going since 2023, when a fan account claimed GTA VI would copy RDR2's hair growth. Rumor, Very Low confidence.
Can you get tattoos in GTA VI?
Yes, in the Ultimate Edition at least. It opens Electric Fang Tattoo in Stockyard, with "over 50 signature tattoos for both Jason and Lucia", all designed by the artist collective FAILE, and its Vice City Style pack adds exclusive outfits and tattoos. Rockstar hasn't yet described tattoo parlours for Standard Edition players.
What customisation does the Ultimate Edition add?
Three of its five extra shops are about looks: Sara's Unisex Salon, with "facial hair for Jason and makeup and nails for Lucia"; Stock 305, "Stockyard's premier destination for elevated streetwear"; and Electric Fang Tattoo. It also adds Goodtime Gear, a clothing line based on Macca the Gator, a character from a Leonida TV show. Separately, every pre-order or purchase before 20 November gets the Vintage Vice City Pack's 1980s outfit and hairstyle for each of them.
Do Jason's and Lucia's bodies change?
Yes, Rockstar says: their bodies change with what they eat and how much they exercise, and a health app tracks whether they're well rested.
How much can you change Jason and Lucia in GTA VI?
Their clothes, hair, facial hair, makeup, nails and tattoos, and their build through food and exercise. Rockstar hasn't mentioned changing their faces, and Jason and Lucia are written characters rather than ones you design.
What changes this: Rockstar detailing customisation in its own channels, or the released game on 19 November 2026.

Open the claim record — 4 claims
- Confirmed High confidence
Rockstar says GTA VI has thousands of outfits, earned from missions or bought in stores, with clothing stores and hair salons across the map; Jason and Lucia can also cut their hair at a safehouse, with fewer options.
- Confirmed Very High confidence

- Inference High confidence
GTA VI does not use Red Dead Redemption 2's hair growth: hair doesn't have to grow back, and salons offer any style straight away.
- Rumor Very Low confidence
In GTA VI Jason's and Lucia's hair and beards grow over time, as in Red Dead Redemption 2.
