Can GTA VI win Game of the Year in 2026?

Why might GTA VI miss Game of the Year at The Game Awards?

Because of when the jury votes, more than when the cutoff falls. Last year nominees were announced on 17 November and the eligibility cutoff was 21 November. Repeated this year, GTA VI would qualify by two days but be put up for nomination before it's released. Final voting last year opened on 24 November, which would give jurors days with a game that Rockstar's Rob Nelson says took him about 80 hours. The writer Alanah Pearce, quoted by Forbes, put it bluntly: "They can't change it. It's too close."

That's a precedent, not a rule. The show can move its dates, and it hasn't published this year's.

Will Rockstar send GTA VI review copies?

Rockstar hasn't said. In May, the Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe said on the X do Controle podcast that Rockstar won't send review codes at all and will instead host reviewers at a closed, supervised location. It's one person's claim with no confirmation, graded a rumor at Low confidence. It matters for the awards: the jury is made up of critics and outlets, and how much of the game they play before voting depends on how reviews are handled.
