GTA VI Ultimate vs Standard: what $20 more unlocks

Two editions, $20 apart. The difference is bigger than most deluxe editions, because some of it is inside the map.

Verdict: Confirmed: the Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99. Ultimate adds vehicles, weapons, outfits, a garage, two extra missions and five shops that only open with it. Confirmed: it's digital only, and a $20 Upgrade adds it later. Confirmed: the locked shops drew a backlash.

What's the difference between GTA VI Standard and Ultimate?

$20 and a list of extras. The Ultimate Edition adds named vehicles, from a '95 Grotti Cheetah to a kayak, his-and-hers revolvers and engraved pistols, exclusive outfits, the Paradise Garage for stashing stolen goods before you fence them, a raid on a gang compound and a classic-car commission. It adds to the Standard game; it doesn't replace it.

Which shops are Ultimate-only?

Five, marked "only open for business with the Ultimate Edition": two mod shops, Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's in Lake Leonida, plus Sara's Unisex Salon, the Stock 305 streetwear store and Electric Fang Tattoo, whose 50-plus tattoos were designed by the art collective FAILE.

Is the GTA VI Ultimate Edition a paywall?

That's the argument. When Rockstar listed the extras in June, the reaction centred on shops and missions that Standard players can see but not use. Some called it the GTA Online mindset creeping into a single-player game; others pointed out that Red Dead Redemption 2 also kept missions for its Ultimate Edition.

Two things it isn't. Some story missions do open only once Jason and Lucia have made enough money, but that's their in-game cash, not yours, and it's the same in both editions. And there's no sign of real-money purchases in the single-player game at launch.

Can you upgrade to the Ultimate Edition later?

Yes. There's no physical Ultimate Edition, but the Ultimate Edition Upgrade adds the same content to the Standard game, boxed or digital, and the Xbox Store lists it at $20.

Do both editions get the pre-order bonus?

Yes. Every pre-order or purchase before 20 November 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a month of GTA+.

Which edition should you buy?

If you want the extra shops, missions and cars, the Ultimate Edition. If you're not sure, the Standard Edition costs nothing extra to upgrade later: the Upgrade is the same $20.

What changes this: Rockstar changing the editions or prices, or opening the Ultimate shops to everyone.
