Will GTA VI stream on Xbox Cloud Gaming? Not to PC, Xbox says
Not to PC, and not exclusively: Xbox's strategy chief said so on 7 October 2026, hours after The Verge reported that Xbox had exclusive streaming rights that would let PC players stream the game at launch. Xbox Cloud Gaming may still stream it in some form, but Microsoft hasn't said where, and streaming it wouldn't put GTA VI on Game Pass.
On 6 October, a report said Xbox had GTA VI's streaming rights to itself, and that PC players could stream the game on day one. Xbox said no to both within five hours.
Verdict: Confirmed: Xbox says GTA VI will not stream exclusively on Xbox and will not stream to PC. Rumor, Very Low confidence, and contradicted: the 6 October report that Xbox had exclusive streaming rights and that PC players could stream the game at launch. Inference, Moderate confidence: Xbox Cloud Gaming will still stream GTA VI in some form, but Microsoft hasn't said on which devices.
Is GTA VI streaming exclusively on Xbox Cloud Gaming?
No. Xbox's chief strategy officer, Matthew Ball, posted on X on 7 October 2026: "While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
His post followed a report The Verge published the evening before. Tom Warren wrote that Xbox's chief executive, Asha Sharma, had told staff Microsoft was getting ready to do something around GTA VI that "no other platform holder is doing", and that, according to his sources, it was a deal for exclusive streaming rights: only Xbox Cloud Gaming would be able to stream the game at launch. After Ball's post, Warren corrected the story, saying the deal "appears to be more complicated than I originally reported."
Can you play GTA VI on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming?
No. Ball's post rules it out: the game will not be streaming "to PC". The original report had said the deal would let Xbox market its cloud service to PC players who'd otherwise need a console, and some outlets told PC players they could play GTA VI that way in November. Xbox says they won't.
GTA VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version.
Will GTA VI be on Xbox Cloud Gaming at all?
Probably, in some form, but nothing is announced. The Verge's corrected report still says Xbox has secured the rights to stream GTA VI at launch, and Warren has stood by that part. Ball's post denies that the game will stream exclusively or to PC. It doesn't deny that it will stream.
Which devices it would reach is the open question. The Verge reads Ball's post as streaming on Xbox consoles only, which would leave out the web browsers and apps that usually reach the service. Push Square reads it as no special arrangement at all. Microsoft hasn't said.
Could you stream GTA VI on an Xbox One?
Nobody has said. Microsoft says its cloud service can give Xbox One owners eligible games built for Xbox Series X|S without upgrading, and there's no Xbox One version of GTA VI. Whether GTA VI will be one of those eligible games is exactly what Microsoft hasn't announced.
Does streaming GTA VI mean it's on Game Pass?
No. Streaming and the Game Pass catalogue are separate. From November, players without Game Pass will be able to buy Xbox cloud hours to stream eligible games they own, and the Game Pass plans themselves include 15, 10 or 5 hours of cloud play a month, on Ultimate, Premium and Essential. GTA VI isn't expected on Game Pass at launch, so streaming it would most likely mean owning a copy first, and the hours would be the limit: Microsoft hasn't published the price of extra time yet.
So how can you play GTA VI on 19 November?
On a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S. Everything about streaming beyond "not exclusive, not to PC" is still to be announced. Microsoft says it will share details of eligible cloud games, and the price of extra hours, in November.
What changes this: Microsoft or Rockstar saying where GTA VI can be streamed, on which devices and in which markets, or that it won't stream at all. Microsoft's November details on eligible cloud games are the first likely moment. A PC version announcement would answer the PC question outright.
