Will GTA VI be on Game Pass or PlayStation Plus?

Day-one releases on Game Pass have taught players to expect big games on subscription. Take-Two has spent four years saying its biggest ones won't be.

Verdict: Inference, Very High confidence: GTA VI won't be on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus at launch. Confirmed: it's sold at $79.99, or $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, on both consoles. Confirmed: GTA V has rotated in and out of both services, most recently leaving Game Pass on 15 April 2026. Nothing has been said about GTA VI joining either service later.

Is GTA VI on Game Pass?

Not at launch, on everything announced. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told GamesIndustry.biz in 2022: "Our scepticism has been around making frontline console products available day and date with subscription. That doesn't make any sense to us because, economically speaking, we don't think consumers are prepared to pay for that." In 2024, after Microsoft put Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Game Pass on day one, he was asked whether that changed anything: "No, it won't affect our decisions. Because our decisions are rational." GTA VI is on sale at full price on the Xbox Store, and no subscription deal has been announced.

Is GTA VI on PlayStation Plus?

No, for the same reasons. Sony's store sells it at the same prices, and Sony's marketing deal for GTA VI, as reported, is about promotion, not subscription access.

Does the free month of GTA+ include GTA VI?

No. Digital pre-orders come with a month of GTA+, Rockstar's own paid membership. It's a bonus for buying the game, not a way to play GTA VI without buying it, and it renews at the normal monthly price unless you cancel.

Will GTA VI come to Game Pass or PS Plus later?

Maybe, years from now, if GTA V is a guide. GTA V, released in 2013, has come and gone from both services in limited runs. Its latest Game Pass run, with GTA Online, began in April 2025 and ended on 15 April 2026, seven months before GTA VI's release, and it left PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on 20 May 2025. Zelnick's own line leaves room for it: older games whose price has come down "can make economic sense" on subscription. Nobody has said anything about GTA VI specifically.

Why won't Take-Two put GTA VI on Game Pass?

Money. Zelnick's argument is that consumers wouldn't pay a subscription price that covers day-one access to games like this, "and we can't afford to turn our business upside down in a way that doesn't make sense economically." He has also said the company "does not operate based on one person's opinions, including mine", so the policy can change. For GTA VI's launch, nothing suggests it has.

Do you have to buy GTA VI to play it?

Yes, at launch: $79.99 for the Standard Edition or $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, digitally or as the boxed version, which holds a download code rather than a disc.
