Does GTA VI have a first-person mode?

Not a full one at launch, by Rockstar's Rob Nelson's account to a creator at the August preview: GTA VI is built around a third-person camera, though you can aim in first person with some weapons. GTA V added its first-person mode a year after release, which is why many expect one later. What's reported, what isn't, and how sure we are.

First-person play was one of GTA V's biggest late additions. GTA VI, by Rockstar's account to a creator, starts without it.

Verdict: Inference, High confidence: GTA VI won't have a full first-person mode at launch, and you can aim in first person with some weapons. That comes from Rockstar North's Rob Nelson as reported by a creator who previewed the game; Rockstar hasn't said it in its own channels. Speculation, Low confidence: a first-person mode will be added after launch.

Can you play GTA VI in first person?

Not as a full mode at launch, on the best account so far. At the Rockstar North preview in late August, YouTuber Davy Jones asked Rob Nelson, the studio's co-head, about first person. Nelson said the game is built primarily around a third-person camera, and Davy Jones reported there would be no full first-person mode at launch. VICE and Beebom add that you can switch to a first-person view while aiming with certain weapons.

Nothing official contradicts it. The 26-minute Extended Look shows no in-game first-person play, and Rockstar hasn't listed a first-person option anywhere.

Why doesn't GTA VI have a first-person mode?

Because Rockstar put its effort into third-person animation, as Nelson's answer was reported. GTA VI leans on detailed animation between Jason and Lucia, and between them and the people and objects around them, which a third-person camera shows off. That's the reason as relayed by the creator, not a written statement from Rockstar.

How reliable is the first-person report?

Fairly reliable, not settled. Four outlets carried it, but all trace back to one conversation, retold by the creator who had it. Insider Gaming pointed out that it's hard to tell whether Davy Jones heard an explicit no or simply didn't see first person used. That's why it's graded an inference rather than confirmed.

Will GTA VI get a first-person mode later?

Possibly, but nobody at Rockstar has said so. The expectation comes from GTA V: it launched in 2013 without first person and added a full first-person mode with its PS4 and Xbox One release in November 2014. Red Dead Redemption 2, by contrast, shipped with one. Outlets read Nelson's "at launch" as leaving the door open; Insider Gaming calls a later mode "conjecture". Speculation, Low confidence.

Will GTA VI have first person at all?

In a limited way, for aiming. As a way to play the whole game, not at launch, on the best account so far, and only Rockstar can say whether that changes.

What changes this: Rockstar confirming the camera options, the launch build on 19 November 2026, or a post-launch update that adds first person.
